Weverse Magazine has come under fire after being accused of shading BTS‘s Jimin and Suga, amongst other K-Pop artists, in a new article about a controversial artist.
On May 25, Weverse Magazine posted a new article about the country singer Morgan Wallen.
While the article itself raised anger due to it being about the controversial artist Morgan Wallen, many were also enraged after it seemingly shaded BTS’s Jimin and Suga.
When referring to Morgan Wallen’s success, they downplayed Jimin’s own solo achievements by explaining, “At least Miley Cyrus, SZA, and Jimin have had some partial success in breaking up his domination of the Hot 100.” While it showed Jimin’s success on the charts, the use of the word “Partial” success to downplay his achievements.
The publication also seemingly threw shade at BTS’s Suga, fellow HYBE artists SEVENTEEN and LE SSERAFIM, and JYP Entertainment’s TWICE. When speaking about their ambitions to reach Billboard success, the article wrote that while the controversial artist achieved success, the K-Pop artists couldn’t.
After the publication was shared, netizens couldn’t hide their anger at the fact that something, which HYBE monitors, was allowed to be posted and discredit the members. The quotes of the initial post were full of angry fans who not only hated the fact the post was on a controversial star but it was downplaying the achievements of the BTS members.
Dedicating an entire article to a disgusting racist while minimising JM’s huge achievements, one of which is being the first Korean/K-Pop soloist in history to debut at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, is simply outrageous. Like I’m at a loss for words rn https://t.co/MQmDZMdo28

If someone who didn't know what was the source of this article read this, they would surely think that Morgan was a Hybe artist and "Agust D and Jimin" were his competitors. What's the point? Why are they kissing up to this racist guy as if they wanted to sign him? https://t.co/QKZWbPnuNf pic.twitter.com/dqZDShfoNk

Even in separate posts, ARMYs shared their anger about the post and how someone who is seemingly working for HYBE is shading two of the company’s artists.

if any other kpop group/act reached number 1 on the hot100 i just know their company would be so LOUD & celebrating that achievement. mind you jimin is the first kpop soloist in 60 years & 3rd asian asian act overall to do this yet weverse is making articles to downplay this feat pic.twitter.com/xawwZIs7wA

Many also pointed out that the person who had written the Weverse post is someone who has gained criticism before due to his comments about Jimin getting a historic Billboard achievement.
The same writer who said this when jimin got #1 on the hot 100 mind you.. I would say hybe need to check who they hire to write for weverse but I think they just don’t give a fuck cause https://t.co/5nmg6fbgUM pic.twitter.com/vj4te9QiWG
