Kep1er: The Multinational Girl Group From Girls Planet 999

Kep1er is a South Korean girl group formed in 2021 through the Mnet reality survival competition show Girls Planet 999. Managed by Swing Entertainment and Wake One Entertainment, the group is composed of nine members from China, Japan, and South Korea. The name "Kep1er" is a reference to the Kepler star systems and the 16th-century astronomer Johannes Kepler, as suggested by viewers through the website Naver.

Formation

Kep1er was formed through Girls Planet 999, a survival show that aired from August to October 2021. The show brought 99 contestants from China, Japan, and South Korea to compete to debut in a multinational girl group. Out of the 99 contestants, only the top nine would make the final lineup. Before the show began, several members had already been active in the entertainment industry.

Members

Kep1er is composed of nine members, namely Choi Yu-jin, Shen Xiaoting, Mashiro Sakamoto, Kim Chae-hyun, Kim Da-yeon, Hikaru Ezaki, Huening Bahiyyih, Seo Young-eun, and Kang Ye-seo. Yu-jin is the leader of the group, while Mashiro is the co-leader.

Discography

Kep1er made their official debut on January 3, 2022, with the release of their first extended play (EP) "First Impact." The EP features the lead single "Wa Da Da." On June 20, 2022, they released their second EP "Doublast" with "Up!" as the lead single. Kep1er released their first Japanese single "Fly-Up" on September 7, 2022, with "Wing Wing" as the lead track. On October 13, 2022, they released their third EP "Troubleshooter" with "We Fresh" serving as the lead single. Kep1er's second Japanese single "Fly-By" is set to be released on March 15, 2023, with "I Do! Do You?" as the lead track.

Awards and Endorsements

On January 13, 2022, Kep1er won their first music program award on M Countdown with "Wa Da Da." The group became models for the South Korean cosmetics brand S2ND on February 15, 2022.
