FIFTY FIFTY

The group's name, Fifty Fifty, symbolizes a balance between an ideal and reality. This concept represents the 50% chance of dreams coming true and the 50% chance of facing reality, with the group aiming to form a complete 100% with the support of their fans. Described by their agency as a blend of hope and hardship, their music explores both the uncertainties of the future and the excitement of new possibilities.

History

Pre-debut

Before making their debut, Saena competed on KBS' dance competition show Dancing High. During the show, she was a member of Hoya's team.

2022–present: Introduction and debut with The Fifty

On November 14, 2022, Fifty Fifty revealed their upcoming debut by sharing their official logo on social media platforms. That same day, a music video for the song "Lovin Me" was released on their YouTube channel. The group members were introduced on November 15 through concept photos and official images from their debut album.

The debut extended play (EP) titled The Fifty was released on November 18, 2022, featuring the lead single "Higher". The album tells the story of young girls striving for freedom amidst the chaos of reality, ultimately finding their way to a utopia. The EP consists of four tracks: "Higher", an R&B pop song about the world of dreams and euphoria; "Tell Me", a city pop track; "Lovin Me", a comforting message to youth experiencing growing pains; and "Log In", a song portraying the rebellion of girls attempting to break free from the oppressive real world.

The group began promoting The Fifty with their debut performance on SBS M's The Show on November 22 and concluded on KBS2's Music Bank on December 2. Their performances received positive feedback for their live vocals and garnered fans from countries like India and Indonesia. The Fifty initially did not chart but later debuted at number forty-four with 2,597 album sales.

The Korean critic magazine IZM gave The Fifty a 4.5 out of 5-star rating, the highest ever for a girl group. Writer Son Seung-geun praised the combination of excellent songs and talented singers, stating that Fifty Fifty added another great girl group to the Korean music scene.

Fifty Fifty was named as one of The Recording Academy's K-pop Girl Groups To Watch in 2023, citing their diverse vocal range and maturity. Rolling Stone India listed them as one of the best K-pop debuts of the year. Additionally, "Tell Me" and "Lovin Me" were featured in the best K-pop songs of 2022 lists by Paper and Mashable.

On February 24, 2023, Fifty Fifty released their first single album, The Beginning: Cupid, alongside the music video for the title track "Cupid". The song, recorded in both Korean and English, includes lyrics written by Keena.
